When I was reading about various OBD2 Code readers it became apparent that lots of different sensors could set off other sensors. In other words- One could still end up replacing GOOD sensors that had been tripped up by a malfunctioning device up the line and that dang light would come back on.
Doing these projects yourself often are not because we enjoy getting greasy and busting our knuckles - we'd like to save some bucks in most cases.
Replacing good sound sensor devices and still having a head-scratching problem isn't saving any dollars. Especially if after research, and your symptoms are still there, you now decide, "OK, if it wasn't THAT, then it might be THIS."
Being the complete auto-novice that I am, I pretty much figured it was going to happen to me after reading that my trucks particular symptoms could be caused by a pretty big list of various sensors.
So I decided what I needed was a hedge against the ole replacing gd sensors trick.
I bought an Equss 3031 Sensor Tester off ebay for 14 bucks on the day I also bought the Equss 3100 Code reader.
"The vehicle sensor tester can test the 10 major sensor groups on-car and off-car for most GM, Ford and Chrysler domestic made vehicles. Test temperature, potentiometer, Hall Effect, reluctance, piezo/knock, oxygen, MAF, MAP, BARO and VAF. 4 LED design for clear test results. Durable, detachable test leads. Piercing probe for easy on-car testing. Quick and easy to use. Includes instructions in English, French and Spanish."
note: The package did NOT come with the needed 9 volt battery.
Will it help you? Depends on how electrically inclined you are.
Did it help me?
I couldn't figure out the instructions manual; basicaly because I am not wired for wiring I think... example for testing the oxygen 02 sensor: "Connect yellow lead to the sensor signal wire."
HUH?? There were FOUR wires! How the heck am I to know which is the 'signal wire?'
I'm sure as I need to do any tests on a particular sensor that I will figure it out as I go.
If replacing the two 02 sensors on my truck had not fixed my problem I am sure I would be glad I had this tool as the next thing I was to test was the MAF sensor which is over 200 bucks.
note: MAF sensors can cause sluggish symptoms if dirty - see Youtube for lots of info. on location and cleaning sensors ... and note that cleaning with just any cleaner can damage plastic parts -
Please leave a review below if you have this tool and it has worked out for you, or not.

ReplyDeletei also had the 3013, don't blame the tool , because you can't figure it out. if you don't know which wire is the signal wire, get a manual, or ask google.
