So, there you are, out on a drive, and you notice that the Service Engine Soon light has come On!

Ut-oh, what does that mean!?!

The Service Engine Soon (SES) light, Check Engine Light (CEL), Check Engine Soon Light, an actual Image of an Engine Light, Engine Management Light, Maintenance Required Light, Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) or whatever your vehicle type, brand, and model may call it, simply means that The ECM (computer) has detected a problem somewhere in the system.

There are hundreds of reasons a Service Engine Light may come On.
The reason may be something as simple as a gas cap not tightened properly.
And it may also be something more serious; or something minor that can lead to more serious damage to other parts if not repaired.

Some writtings on the net say if the auto is running well, and your Service light comes on, and there are no OTHER warning lamps ON - keep on truckin'.
Other's warn, yep, truck right on down to a service repair center and at least have it checked out.

Ignoring the Light will not make it go away.
Generaly if the light is ON it is because the ECM has already encountered the same problem area more than ONCE in consecutive drive cycles.

Using technology, or tricks, to turn off the light, will not make a reocuuring problem go away.
The Light will simply come back on if your vehicles' computer see's the problem again.

How do I turn the "Service Engine Soon" light off?
